Nudification or “de-clothing” apps use generative AI to realistically make it seem like an individual has been stripped of their clothes in a picture or video.

Such tech builds on current filters applied by platforms equivalent to Meta to detect and flag potential nudity in imagery, typically with the intention of stopping kids taking or sharing intimate photographs of themselves.

Its chief government Kerry Smith welcomed the measures.

“We’re additionally glad to see concrete steps to ban these so-called nudification apps which haven’t any cause to exist as a product,” she stated.

“Apps like this put actual kids at even larger threat of hurt, and we see the imagery produced being harvested in a number of the darkest corners of the web.”

Nevertheless whereas kids’s charity the NSPCC welcomed the information, its director of technique Dr Maria Neophytou stated it was “dissatisfied” to not see related “ambition” to introduce necessary device-level protections.
