William Seaside, the previous commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics who was nominated by President Donald Trump and led the company throughout his first time period, has condemned the firing of his successor, calling it “completely groundless” and warning that it “units a harmful precedent.”
“The completely groundless firing of Dr. Erika McEntarfer, my successor as Commissioner of Labor Statistics at BLS, units a harmful precedent and undermines the statistical mission of the Bureau,” he posted on X.
In an extended assertion he co-signed, he known as on Congress to analyze the matter and “strongly urged” that McEntarfer proceed to serve, warning that her firing “undermines the credibility of federal financial statistics” which can be “the gold customary globally.”
“When leaders of different nations have politicized financial knowledge, it has destroyed public belief in all official statistics and in authorities science,” Seaside wrote alongside colleagues from the “Associates of the Bureau of Labor Statistics” group.
