    A British man who hacked excessive profile Twitter – now referred to as X – accounts as a part of a Bitcoin rip-off has been ordered handy over £4.1m in stolen cryptocurrency.

    Joseph O’Connor, from Liverpool, hijacked greater than 130 accounts in July 2020, together with these of Barack Obama, Joe Biden and Elon Musk.

    The 26-year-old fled to Spain the place his mom lives earlier than being arrested and extradited to the US for trial.

    O’Connor, who glided by the alias PlugwalkJoe, carried out the so-called “giveaway rip-off” with different younger males and youngsters – breaking into Twitter’s inner programs and taking up excessive profile accounts.

    Adrian Foster, Chief Crown Prosecutor for the CPS Proceeds of Crime Division, stated O’Connor “focused well-known people and used their accounts to rip-off individuals out of their crypto property and cash”.
