A United Nations inquiry has discovered that Israel’s conflict on Gaza is a genocide, a landmark second after almost two years of conflict.
Navi Pillay, chair of the UN Unbiased Worldwide Fee of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, made the announcement of the UN inquiry to Al Jazeera on Tuesday.
“We’ve recognized the president [Isaac Herzog], the Prime Minister [Benjamin] Netanyahu and the previous minister of defence [Yoav Gallant] based mostly on their statements and the orders that they’ve given,” Pillay mentioned in an interview.
“As a result of these three people had been brokers of the state, underneath the legislation, the state is held accountable. So we are saying it’s [the] state of Israel that has dedicated genocide,” she added.
In keeping with the report, the Fee discovered that together with the statements made by the Israeli officers, there was “circumstantial proof” that led to their findings of genocidal intent.
“The Fee concludes that the Israeli authorities and Israeli safety forces have the genocidal intent to destroy, in complete or partially, the Palestinians within the Gaza Strip,” the report discovered.
Nevertheless, Israel’s ambassador to Geneva slammed the report’s findings and referred to it as “scandalous”, “faux”, and a “libellous rant”.
