The Favorite: After a 5-1 start to the season, the Bills have the best odds in the AFC to make the playoffs. Josh Allen leads all NFL quarterbacks with 17 total touchdowns through seven weeks, while Buffalo’s offense ranks first in scoring (32.8 points per game), yards per play (6.48), points per drive (3.28) and scoring drive percentage (60%). However, their 31st-ranked defense will need to improve if the Bills want to hoist the Lombardi Trophy in February.
Comeback Season: The Chiefs appear to be back after a disappointing 2025 season. Kansas City made the playoffs in 10 consecutive seasons from 2015 to 2024, but last year wasn’t its year. The Chiefs finished 6-11 and shockingly missed the postseason, while Patrick Mahomes tore his ACL in Week 15. Kansas City opened this season 5-0, including wins over every AFC West opponent, before falling to the Seahawks 20-3 for its first loss. Seattle held the Chiefs to their fewest points (3, tied), total yards (213) and first downs (11) in any regular-season game started by Mahomes. Despite the loss, the Chiefs still have the second-best odds in the AFC to make the playoffs, trailing only the Bills.
Needing A Charger: The Chargers entered the season among the favorites to win the AFC. Now, after being the only remaining team in the NFL to not have won a game yet, they are in major danger of missing the playoffs for the first time in the Jim Harbaugh era. Los Angeles has now lost nine straight games dating back to Week 16 of 2025. The last time the Chargers started 0-6 was in 2000 when they started 0-11. During that season, Harbaugh was the starting quarterback. Justin Herbert is now the only QB since 2020 with an interception in each of the first six games of a season. Herbert leads the NFL with 8 interceptions, and the Chargers are now +5000 to make it to the playoffs.

Gold Rush: The 49ers suffered their first loss of the season Sunday against the Falcons, falling to 6-1. San Francisco continues to deal with injuries, as Christian McCaffrey missed a good portion of the game against Atlanta, though he should be alright going forward. Despite the loss, the 49ers remain in a strong position in the NFC. Brock Purdy is playing at an MVP level this season, and the defense might be the most improved unit in the league. If the Niners can stay healthy, they should be well on their way to the playoffs. Their odds of making the postseason now sit at -4000.
Giants Surge: After their upset win over the Texans as 10.5-point underdogs on Sunday, the Giants have surged from +200 to +106 to make the playoffs. The G-Men have a good grasp of the NFC East through seven weeks as the only team in the division above .500. In five quarters as the Giants’ quarterback, J.J. McCarthy has thrown for 495 yards and looks to have found his home in New York.
Biggest Surprises: The Rams entered the season as heavy Super Bowl favorites, but after a 3-4 start, their odds to make the playoffs have dropped. But L.A. bounced back from losing at home as 12.5-point favorites to the Cardinals with a big win over the Raiders in Week 7. With Myles Garrett expected to return soon, the Rams certainly can’t be counted out. The last preseason Super Bowl favorite to miss the playoffs was New England in 2008. Despite the losing record, the Rams remain favored to make the postseason at -115. Meanwhile, the Eagles have dropped five games in a row for the first time since Weeks 11-15 of the 2016 season. To make matters worse, Jalen Hurts will miss the rest of the regular season. Since 2021, the Eagles are 58-25 with Hurts as their starter and now 3-6 with all other quarterbacks. Philly is now heavily favored to miss the playoffs for the first time since 2020.
